Clinical Conversations is an interactive open forum designed to bring professionals together to explore current issues, emerging trends, and real-world challenges across the gambling landscape.

Each session provides a collaborative space for professionals to ask questions, share experiences, exchange resources, and learn from one another. Topics may include clinical practice, emerging gambling trends, prevention, recovery, public health, technology, ethics, policy, and other issues impacting individuals and communities experiencing gambling-related harm.

Clinical Conversations is designed as an interactive discussion—not a webinar or traditional presentation. Participants are expected to actively contribute to the conversation by asking questions, sharing professional experiences and perspectives, and engaging respectfully with other participants.

Come prepared to listen, ask questions, share what you're seeing, and learn from your colleagues.

Description:

Selling the Bet: Influencers, Social Media, and Gambling Culture

This Clinical Conversation explores how social media platforms, online personalities, and digital communities are shaping attitudes toward gambling and influencing gambling behaviors. As sports betting, online casinos, and other gambling products become increasingly visible in digital spaces, clinicians may encounter clients whose gambling behaviors are influenced by online content, influencer endorsements, betting communities, and the normalization of gambling.

This open discussion forum will provide an opportunity for professionals to share clinical experiences, discuss emerging concerns, and consider how social media and betting culture may influence gambling initiation, escalation, perceptions of risk, and recovery. Rather than a formal presentation, the session will emphasize peer discussion, clinical reflection, and practical application.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify ways social media, influencer content, and online betting communities may shape attitudes toward gambling and perceptions of gambling-related risk.
  2. Discuss how digital betting culture may influence gambling behaviors, client disclosures, and clinical presentations.
  3. Explore clinical approaches for discussing social media influences, online betting exposure, and gambling-related harm with clients.
