Course description:
This training provides an overview of ethical principles and standards that guide professional counseling practice. Participants will explore key ethical principles, decision-making models, and real-world scenarios to enhance their understanding of how to navigate complex ethical dilemmas. The session will cover core topics such as confidentiality, dual relationships, informed consent, cultural competence, self-care, and professional boundaries.
This training aims to reinforce ethical awareness, promote best practices, and ensure compliance with legal and professional standards. Participants will be asked to share about their own experiences to provide context and real-life examples in addition to considering scenarios presented in the session.
Course Objectives:
- Review ethical issues including ethical principles, methods for resolution, and informed consent
- Describe ethical issues in professional boundaries, confidentiality, and dual relationships
- Consider processes in resolving ethical dilemmas
Presenters: Katrina Arroyo, LPCC-S, LICDC-GAMB
Katrina is the Manager of Clinical Programs for the Problem Gambling Network of Ohio and has been actively integrating mental health, substance use, and gambling services since 2016. She provides treatment, education, and supervision while working to ensure accessible, effective support for individuals across the state of Ohio.
Katrina earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Kent State University, and holds independent licensure through the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker & Marriage and Family Therapist Board as well as the Ohio Chemical Dependency Professionals Board. She also holds the Ohio Gambling Endorsement, Training Supervisor Designation and is an International Certified Gambling Counselor.
In her role, Katrina facilitates the Ohio Problem Gambling Clinical Fellowship and provides statewide supervision to clinicians delivering gambling treatment services. She also oversees the Ohio Warm Transfer Program through the Ohio Problem Gambling Helpline, ensuring timely connection to care for individuals seeking support.
