— UPCOMING EVENT
THIS IS AN EXTERNAL EVENT
Description:
According to the National Council on Problem Gambling, fewer than 10% of individuals with a gambling disorder seek professional treatment—often due to the stigma and shame surrounding the issue. This underscores the critical importance of connecting clients who do enter treatment with all available recovery resources, including Gambler’s Anonymous (GA). But what if a client isn’t ready to attend a GA meeting?
This webinar will equip participants with practical, actionable strategies for weaving GA principles and literature into problem gambling treatment—whether or not clients are ready to walk into a meeting. Simply knowing where the local meetings are isn’t enough. By building a stronger bridge to GA, helping professionals can help clients connect with peers in recovery, enhance therapeutic outcomes, and foster lasting community support essential for long-term recovery.
Zepf Center will share how attending and observing GA meetings informs the development of clinical strategies that integrate GA concepts into treatment. You’ll discover how to encourage clients to explore GA in their own communities, even if they are initially hesitant, and leave with ready-to-use interventions and practical tools for both individual and group therapy settings.
Goals: To deepen understanding of Gamblers Anonymous as a peer support resource, explore its role alongside formal gambling treatment, and identify practical ways professionals can support client engagement with GA.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe current trends related to gambling disorder and Gambler’s Anonymous participation.
- Discuss core concepts of GA and benefits of peer support.
- Share Zepf Center's collaboration efforts with their local GA community.
- Provide practical strategies for how helping professionals can integrate GA literature and principles into their work with clients.
