Problem Gambling Ethics & Advanced CBT Trainings

The Indiana Problem Gambling Awareness programs is offering a two day training for counselors and therapist working or interested in working in the field of problem gambling.  This training will improve your knowledge about problem gambling and treatment interventions.  Day One: Problem Gambling and Ethics in the Digital Age Therapy and communication are rapidly evolving as we continue to expand our digital worlds. Clients and therapists are immersed in a digital age where many ethical issues present challenges. This 6 hour workshop will help clinicians explore the relationship between technology and therapy while identifying ethical complexities that may arise as we move forward in the digital age. Special attention will be given to working with Gambling Disorder.  


  • Discuss the role of technology and electronic communication in therapy
  • Describe the ethical complexities regarding technology and electronic communication in therapy
  • Identify the key elements of a digital media policy  


Day Two: Advanced Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Gambling Disorder

This 6 hour workshop will provide attendees with advanced knowledge about how to adapt a Cognitive Behavioral Model (CBT) for the treatment of Gambling Disorder. Throughout the course of the day, participants can expect to learn how to identify and treat many common cognitive distortions and mind games associated with Disordered Gambling.  


  • Accurately assess Gambling Disorder
  • Understand a CBT protocol to work with Gambling Disorder
  • Learn to identify and treat common cognitive distortions  


Who should attend? This training is an opportunity for those who are addiction or mental health counselors, as well as social workers to learn more about treating problem gamblers. You must register for each day you want to attend separately. To register go to:

About the Trainer

Robby is an experienced LCSW that has served in several different roles for Morneau Shepell.  As a clinical associate, Robby worked as part of the Call 2 Change team providing counseling services to compulsive gamblers.  Robby also conducted assessments, referral services, and other case management functions for several different state funded problem gambling helplines.  As a clinical trainer, Robby provides training programs for clinicians to treat compulsive gambling disorder in Illinois and North Carolina.  Robby also collaborates with the Mississippi Council of Problem and Compulsive Gambling and the Mississippi Gaming Commission to educate casino staff across the state of Mississippi by providing Responsible Gaming training. Prior to BDA | MS,

Robby interned & worked as a Crisis Clinician at South Shore Mental Health in Quincy, Massachusetts.  He also interned as a clinician and case manager at Volunteers of America in Boston, Massachusetts.  Robby has a Bachelor’s in Business Administration from the University of North Texas and a Master’s degree in Social Work with a Mental Health concentration from Boston College."
